Chrysler and Nissan Form Partnership

June 14, 2008

Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co. announced they will join forces to produce pickup trucks for the U.S. market and small cars for North America, and other markets.  Many in the auto industry expected after the two talked earlier this year.

It appears Nissan will start making a small car for Chrysler at a plant in Oppama, Japan, in 2010 for Chrysler to sell the car in North America, Europe and other areas.

Chrysler will start building a large pickup for Nissan after that to replace Nissan’s current Titan model.

Chrysler said the deal with Nissan does not change its plans to import small cars built by a Chinese automaker, Chery, although there is no real confirmation this will actually happen.
