DI5K A Run to Remember

70ecab4180b14171bf1fefa2232010ba
The third annual Dick’s Auto Group 5k was held Memorial Day weekend at Dick’s Country Dodge in Hillsboro. It was a great success and the man behind Dick’s Auto Group was at the front of everyones mind. I was not one of the lucky ones to know Dick, but he is a legend in an industry where giving back without incentives to do so is not always common. (I should say that this is me speaking as a blogger who has been in this industry for nearly a decade, and not as a blogger for Dick’s.) He was a legend when he was alive, and an icon after his passing. To drive the point home, if all of us lived the way he did with his values and giving back spirit, the world would be a much better place. His family is carrying on the tradition and I am truly honored to know them.

For those that were lucky to have known Dick, they already know of the great impact he made on different causes in Oregon. For those that weren’t fortunate to know him, he was a business owner with a huge heart and he gave back greatly to his community.

Inukai devoted much of his work in the community to dozens of organizations with causes that impact children, such as providing books and readers to elementary schools through Operation Outreach; providing food, gifts and adopt-a-family coordination during the holidays for the Domestic Violence Resource Center; and with Hillsboro Parks and Recreation.

In 1997, Dick joined the board of directors of the Citizens Crime Commission of Portland. Upon his appointment to the board, he quickly began tackling problems involving youth and led efforts to strengthen the Portland Police Bureau through increased staffing and greater emphasis on community policing. Inukai also helped establish the Homeless Youth Assessment Committee, which received nationwide recognition for its work to boost resources and services for the area’s homeless teens.

ick’s passion for serving kids led to his greatest contribution in supporting the rebuild of the Hillsboro Boys and Girls Club, now called the Inukai Family Boys and Girls Club, earning him ‘Philanthropist of the Year’ from Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce in 2006. Inukai was honored by the Hillsboro Chamber with two additional awards in 2003 and 2004, being presented the ‘Honorable Business of the Year Award’ and the ‘Bob Herb Leadership Award’, respectively.

For his outstanding corporate citizenship, Ford Motor Company named Inukai among nine recipients of its 2004 ‘Salute to Dealers Award’, established to demonstrate a commitment to its dealer principals who work to improve the lives of those in their communities.

Inukai’s roots drew him to the Japan-American Society of Oregon (JASO), serving as a member for over 20 years. In 2000, Inukai was instrumental in taking an active role when a large number of Asian businesspeople and travelers were being mistreated, detained or turned away at the airport by the US Immigration and Naturalization Service. Inukai’s efforts resulted in increased relations between the Asian community and INS.

Portland Jeep Renegade dealer presents interior information

JeepNY_2774R__mid

The all-new Jeep Renegade interior features a rugged and energetic appearance that builds upon Jeep’s legendary brand heritage. This small SUV’s precisely crafted detail, innovative and high-quality color and material appointments, state-of-the-art technology, and clever storage draw inspiration from contemporary extreme sports gear and lifestyles.

JP015_076RN__mid

The interior of the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade has a distinctive form language, which Jeep designers have titled “Tek-Tonic.” This new design theme is defined by the intersections of soft and tactile forms with rugged and functional details. Major surfaces, such as the sculpted soft-touch instrument panel, are intersected with bold functional elements like the passenger grab handle – indispensable for off-road adventures and borrowed from its big brother, the legendary Jeep Wrangler. Unique “protective clamp fasteners,” anodized design accents and inspired colors are derived from extreme sports equipment, while the newly familiar “X” shapes inspired by its roof and tail lamps add to Renegade’s Tek-Tonic interior look. And to make sure all of the needed passenger gear fits, the Renegade is designed with an efficient and flexible interior package that includes a fold-forward front-passenger seat and class-exclusive removable, reversible and height-adjustable cargo floor panel.

Great success at first annual Inukai 5k…Happy Birthday, Dick!

One hundred and fifty of us came together last Saturday, May 25th, for the 1st annual Dick Inukai 5k run.  We were there to celebrate Dick Inukai, founder of Dick’s Country Dodge and Mackenzie Ford, who would have been 70-years-old on race day.

Inukai truly cared about Oregon and gave back greatly in life. Inukai devoted much of his work in the community to dozens of organizations with causes that assist in the needs of children, such as providing books and readers to elementary schools through Operation Outreach; providing food, gifts and adopt-a-family coordination during the holidays for the Domestic Violence Resource Center; and with Hillsboro Parks and Recreation.

His philanthropist spirit lives on through the Inukai Family FoundationThe foundation’s goals are to create positive youth development, to provide educational grants and scholarship support to teachers and students, to establish scholarship support to the sons and daughters of the employees of Dick’s Auto Group, to support healthcare needs, and to promote Japanese education and awareness. The above were all causes that were near and dear to Dick’s heart, especially those that impacted children. Saturday’s event raised the foundation approximately $4,000.

Which brings us to our female winner of the race: 12-year- old Alexis Brashaber. Although I don’t love that I couldn’t even come close to keeping up with a 12-year-old, it is wonderfully fitting. I think we see a future track star on our hands!

We would also like to give props to runner Dustin Buell, 29, who was the first man to cross the finish line.

Thank you all that came out! We will see you next year for the 2nd annual Inukai 5K!

7-year-old boy steals dad’s Dodge to avoid church

628x347xkid-police-chase-628.jpg.pagespeed.ic.w-7jURF7L4

Police in Utah were in for a shock when they spotted an erratic driver recently. After following the white Dodge Intrepid for a spell, the pursuing officers watched as the driver parked the car, jumped from behind the wheel and ran into his father’s house. Standard fare, you say? Not quite.

The driver was actually a seven-year-old boy who had pilfered his dad’s keys to skip out on going to church. The officers opted to let the parents handle disciplining the youngster rather than subject him to the legal system, but cautioned the dad to keep his car keys in a more secure location in the future.

Good call.

You can check out video from the chase for yourself. The police say the kid did a pretty good job of keeping the car under control, but did run one stop sign. As Ricky Bobby would say, “I wanna go fast.”

2013 Dodge Dart Aero fuel miser priced from $19,295*

Hitting at least 40 miles per gallon is practically a necessity to compete in the compact car segment these days, and the 2013 Dodge Dart has hit this mark with the all-new Aero package. The Dart Aero is Dodge‘s fuel economy package for the car that starts at $19,295 (not including the $795 destination charge), and while Hyundai has been saving the asterisks since 2010, many other automakers use a similar method to get that magic 40-mpg rating onto the Monroney label.

The Dart Aero receives Fiat’s 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo I4 and numerous other changes to hit up to 41 mpg highway with the manual transmission which is an improvement of 2 mpg alone over Chrysler’s initial estimates for the car. Opting for the new dual dry clutch transmission will drop the highway number to an even 40 mpg – cars with either transmission are rated at 28 mpg city and 32 mpg combined. These are significant gains over initial Dart models with the 2.0-liter engine that were rated at up to 25 mpg city/36 mpg highway/29 mpg combined. This new engine also delivers the same 160 horsepower as the base engine, but it adds an extra 36 pound-feet of torque rated at 184 lb-ft.

Other than the new engine and the advanced DDCT gearbox, the Dart Aero was able to deliver such an improvement in fuel economy courtesy of a lower profile, active grille shutters, underbody aero kit and low-rolling resistance tires.

Compared to the base 2013 Dart, the Aero package is a $3,300 premium, but cars like the Focus SFE, Civic HF, Cruze Eco, Mazda3 Skyactiv and Jetta TDI all charge a premium for playing in the 40-mpg sandbox. Included in this higher price, the Dart Aero comes standard with some of the Dart’s unique features like the 8.4-inch media center, the Dart’s seven-inch TFT gauge cluster and one of the car’s most stylish elements, the LED “racetrack” taillights.
