DI5K A Run to Remember

The third annual Dick’s Auto Group 5k was held Memorial Day weekend at Dick’s Country Dodge in Hillsboro. It was a great success and the man behind Dick’s Auto Group was at the front of everyones mind. I was not one of the lucky ones to know Dick, but he is a legend in an industry where giving back without incentives to do so is not always common. (I should say that this is me speaking as a blogger who has been in this industry for nearly a decade, and not as a blogger for Dick’s.) He was a legend when he was alive, and an icon after his passing. To drive the point home, if all of us lived the way he did with his values and giving back spirit, the world would be a much better place. His family is carrying on the tradition and I am truly honored to know them.

For those that were lucky to have known Dick, they already know of the great impact he made on different causes in Oregon. For those that weren’t fortunate to know him, he was a business owner with a huge heart and he gave back greatly to his community.

Inukai devoted much of his work in the community to dozens of organizations with causes that impact children, such as providing books and readers to elementary schools through Operation Outreach; providing food, gifts and adopt-a-family coordination during the holidays for the Domestic Violence Resource Center; and with Hillsboro Parks and Recreation.

In 1997, Dick joined the board of directors of the Citizens Crime Commission of Portland. Upon his appointment to the board, he quickly began tackling problems involving youth and led efforts to strengthen the Portland Police Bureau through increased staffing and greater emphasis on community policing. Inukai also helped establish the Homeless Youth Assessment Committee, which received nationwide recognition for its work to boost resources and services for the area’s homeless teens.

ick’s passion for serving kids led to his greatest contribution in supporting the rebuild of the Hillsboro Boys and Girls Club, now called the Inukai Family Boys and Girls Club, earning him ‘Philanthropist of the Year’ from Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce in 2006. Inukai was honored by the Hillsboro Chamber with two additional awards in 2003 and 2004, being presented the ‘Honorable Business of the Year Award’ and the ‘Bob Herb Leadership Award’, respectively.

For his outstanding corporate citizenship, Ford Motor Company named Inukai among nine recipients of its 2004 ‘Salute to Dealers Award’, established to demonstrate a commitment to its dealer principals who work to improve the lives of those in their communities.

Inukai’s roots drew him to the Japan-American Society of Oregon (JASO), serving as a member for over 20 years. In 2000, Inukai was instrumental in taking an active role when a large number of Asian businesspeople and travelers were being mistreated, detained or turned away at the airport by the US Immigration and Naturalization Service. Inukai’s efforts resulted in increased relations between the Asian community and INS.

Great success at first annual Inukai 5k…Happy Birthday, Dick!

One hundred and fifty of us came together last Saturday, May 25th, for the 1st annual Dick Inukai 5k run.  We were there to celebrate Dick Inukai, founder of Dick’s Country Dodge and Mackenzie Ford, who would have been 70-years-old on race day.

Inukai truly cared about Oregon and gave back greatly in life. Inukai devoted much of his work in the community to dozens of organizations with causes that assist in the needs of children, such as providing books and readers to elementary schools through Operation Outreach; providing food, gifts and adopt-a-family coordination during the holidays for the Domestic Violence Resource Center; and with Hillsboro Parks and Recreation.

His philanthropist spirit lives on through the Inukai Family FoundationThe foundation’s goals are to create positive youth development, to provide educational grants and scholarship support to teachers and students, to establish scholarship support to the sons and daughters of the employees of Dick’s Auto Group, to support healthcare needs, and to promote Japanese education and awareness. The above were all causes that were near and dear to Dick’s heart, especially those that impacted children. Saturday’s event raised the foundation approximately $4,000.

Which brings us to our female winner of the race: 12-year- old Alexis Brashaber. Although I don’t love that I couldn’t even come close to keeping up with a 12-year-old, it is wonderfully fitting. I think we see a future track star on our hands!

We would also like to give props to runner Dustin Buell, 29, who was the first man to cross the finish line.

Thank you all that came out! We will see you next year for the 2nd annual Inukai 5K!

Portland Chrysler dealer presents “Lose Yourself” in gospel

You can pretty much take any song and put it to gospel music to give me chills! It’s no different for “Lose Yourself”, the song from Eminem that was the background of the award-winning “Rings of Fire” Superbowl commercial that we recently wrote about.

Now you can enjoy the gospel version and video on iTunes, courtesy of Chrysler, Eight Mile Style LLC and “Selected by God” gospel choir.  “Selected of God,” is the choir featured in the Chrysler brand Super Bowl commercial “Born of Fire.”

Keeping in the spirit of the “Imported from Detroit” campaign, Eight Mile Style will donate all publishing proceeds from the music download to three local Detroit charities – Abayomi Community Development Corporation, The Yuinon and the Robert S. Shumake Foundation.

In keeping with the spirit of the Imported from Detroit campaign, Eight Mile Style will donate 100 percent of all publishing proceeds from each song download to three charities:
Abayomi Community Development Corporation
The Yuinon
Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Foundation

“Born of Fire” debuted at the 2011 Super Bowl and was designed to generate a conversation about the Chrysler brand and the new 2011 Chrysler 200, for sale in Portland. The two-minute commercial, which was also a Super Bowl first, ignited a spark throughout the United States, as many felt a connection to the attitude and work ethic portrayed in the scenes and narration. The spot reflects where the brand is headed and pays tribute to its industrial roots. While the commercial focused on Detroit, in many ways, it encapsulated the spirit of the country and the comeback of the Chrysler brand and Chrysler Group.

The Chrysler brand chose the song, “Lose Yourself,” because the lyrics speak to the ability to do anything we set our mind to do. The Chrysler brand, the company and its employees have adopted the principle that failure is not an option.
Born of Fire also revealed the tagline for the brand, “Imported from Detroit,” created to convey the message that one does not have to cross an ocean to obtain luxury – it’s available right here and evident in the Chrysler brand product lineup.

Download the song here, or watch the video here.

You can find the Chrysler 200 in Portland at Portland Chrysler dealer, Dick’s Country Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Ram in Hillsboro. We are part of Dick’s Auto Group! If you are looking for a new or used car in Portland, please consider our extensive inventory!

Dick’s Auto Group Gets New VP’s

Scott and Shannon Inukai have recently been promoted and are now Vice Presidents of Dick’s Auto Group. Dick Inukai, Founder and President has invested years into building this corporation. It is exciting to see a leadership team following him that will guarantee the success of this fine family owned corporation far into the future and the continued availability of quality domestic vehicles and services to the local community.

Dick’s Mackenzie Ford and Dick’s Country Chrysler Jeep Dodge not only sell and service cars, trucks and vans, they are companies that respect and build up the community the are located in. Organizations such as The Boys and Girls Club and the Portland Crime Commission enjoy the financial, moral and volunteer support they receive from the owners and managers of this company. They are also active members of the local Chamber of Commerce in order to encourage and assist the business community of this area in general.

Since the beginning, Dick Inukai and the family of Dick’s Country Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Dick’s Mackenzie Ford, together, Dick’s Auto Group, has committed to help not only those who help themselves but those also who cannot help themselves. I look forward to see what this new generation of team builder and leaders will accomplish.

Congratulations and much success.
