Hyundai Tucson and Accent Receive J.D. Power Initial Quality Awards

Portland Hyundai drivers, you own one of the best cars according to J.D. Powers! For further information on all Hyundais for sale in Oregon, contact Dick’s Hillsboro Hyundai at (855) 818-5883.

Hyundai ranked fourth among all brands in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) and second among non-premium automakers. In addition, the 2015 Hyundai Tucson, for sale in Portland, was awarded for the highest initial quality in the small SUV segment and the 2015 Hyundai Accent, for sale in Oregon, earned the highest honor in the small-car segment for the second year in a row.

IQS, now in its 29th year, serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. According to the study, Tucson and Accent owners reported fewer problems with their vehicles than any other small SUV or small car, respectively.

In total, Hyundai had four models ranking in the top two in their segments, including segment awards for Tucson and Accent, and second-place finishes for Elantra and Santa Fe. The Hyundai overall score was 95 problems per 100 vehicles, 17 problems fewer than the industry average. This year’s results mark the fourth time Hyundai has finished among the top four brands overall.

The 2015 IQS is based on responses from more than 84,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2015 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study is based on a 233-question survey designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement.

Ford spotted testing new Fiesta RS hot hatch

fiesta-rs-4-1

There’s a lot to love about Focus ST and Fiesta ST, but if neither of those is enough for you, we’ve got good news: Ford has even more potent RS versions of both in the works. The Focus RS we already saw last month, but here we have our first spy shots of the smaller Fiesta RS undergoing testing.

Spotted alongside still-camouflaged prototypes of its big brother, the new Ford Fiesta RS is wearing a modified front end, flared fenders packing a wider track and a revised rear-end.

The beefed-up bodywork is all well and fine, but we’re looking forward to finding out what’s underneath it all. Sources point towards a 250-horsepower version of Dearborn’s 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo four, along with upgraded brakes and suspension.

The big question, though, is whether the production Fiesta RS will pack the new performance all-wheel-drive system from its larger counterpart, or stick with front-drive and some sort of clever diff. It may be too early to tell, as this pocket rocket is likely a good year away from its debut, but in the meantime you can scope out the spy shots in the slideshow above for a taste of what’s to come.

Can a 2010 Ford Fusion Go 1000 Miles on One Tank of Gas?

Have you ever heard of a “hypermiler”? It is a person who specializes at getting a lot of miles per gallon out of a vehcile. In other words, a fuel efficiency expert. They use Eco-Driving techniques to maximize operational efficiency. Recent studies show how you drive to be important and in some cases more important than what you drive in achieving the best fuel economy results. A good hypermiler can achieve 30-40% or better fuel economy than an typical driver using typical driving techniques. For instance, the new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid is rated at 41 MPG on its window sticker. Most of us have difficulty achieving even the stated economy of a vehicle. In recent tests and when it was driven by a hypermiler named Wayne Gerdes, the vehicle managed to produce a fuel economy rating of approximatley 70 MPG.

Ford Motor Company is commited to producing fuel efficient vehciles that protect our enviornment and help of to live off our own resources. It is more than just trying to be green. Yes, being green is a goal. But keeping our enviornment green is a much more valuable objective. So Ford’s hottest new vehicle is a cool efficient hybrid! Read more below.

DEARBORN, Mich., April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — This weekend, the 2010 Ford (NYSE: F) Fusion Hybrid is being put to the ultimate fuel-efficiency test. A team of drivers, including NASCAR star Carl Edwards and world-record breaking hypermiler Wayne Gerdes, will attempt to drive more than 1,000 miles on a single tank of gas, raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the process.

The 1,000-Mile Challenge starts at around 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, from Mount Vernon, Va., and ends the morning of Monday, April 27, in Washington, D.C. The team will drive for more than 43 hours continuously to reach the 1,000-mile goal. The drivers will do stints of between two and three hours each and will have regular breaks to ensure safe driving is maintained. Already rated as the most fuel-efficient, mid-sized sedan in America, the Fusion Hybrid will need to average at least 57 mpg to achieve its goal. During preliminary testing in preparation for this challenge, Ford engineers have reached as much as 70 mpg in the Fusion Hybrid by using Eco-Driving techniques.

The team will run clinics for media and customers over the weekend in the Fusion Hybrid, conducting interviews and vehicle demonstrations on how simple techniques can make a significant difference to real world fuel economy numbers.

The Fusion Hybrid being used in the challenge will be a factory produced model with no modifications or alterations and will run on regular 87 octane gas.

The team will be uploading regular images and video to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/fordstory), Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fordmotorcompany), Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/people/Kristopher-Spencer/1228149870), Twitter (http://twitter.com/Ford), and http://www.media.ford.com.

Ford is taking on the 1,000-Mile Challenge for a number of reasons:

* To demonstrate Ford’s commitment to be the best or amongst the best in fuel economy in every vehicle segment in which it competes;

* To highlight the crucial role the driver plays in maximizing fuel economy and demonstrate how consumers can make a difference through Eco-Driving;

* To raise awareness about Eco-Driving and how the Fusion Hybrid contributes to it with the ability to run up to 47 mph in pure electric mode; and

* To raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

The 1,000-Mile Challenge team comprises of:

* Wayne Gerdes, the world-record breaking hypermiling champion and founder of http://www.cleanmpg.com;

* Carl Edwards, the NASCAR race star who recently bought his own 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid;

* Gil Portalatin, Ford hybrid applications manager and Ford Fusion Hybrid team leader;

* Tom Rolewicz, one of Ford’s top calibration experts and hybrid system expert; and

* Steve Burke, Ford product expert on hybrid applications

The mileage-maximizing techniques that the Ford team will use and pass on to consumers include:

* Slowing down and maintaining even throttle pressure;

* Gradually accelerating and smoothly braking;

* Maintaining a safe distance between vehicles and anticipating traffic conditions;

* Coasting up to red lights and stop signs to avoid fuel waste and brake wear;

* Minimize use of heater and air conditioning to reduce the load on the engine;

* Close windows at high speeds to reduce aerodynamic drag;

* Applying the “Pulse and Glide” technique while maintaining the flow of traffic;

* Minimize excessive engine workload by using the vehicle’s kinetic forward motion to climb hills, and use downhill momentum to build speed; and

* Avoiding bumps and potholes that can reduce momentum

The dollar you don’t spend today is missed by others

Here is a very interesting article that brings another point to the discussion. I remember when the talk of the recession were taking hold and the economy slipping and fuel prices slammed down to earth. There was talk about “deflation”. Now most of my like I have heard of the dangers of inflation. From the report, deflation is worse. As the economy weakens, prices drop to create desire for products. Lower prices create weaker business, many of whom will go out of business in the process. As other business discount heavier, competition drives all prices lower. As prices go lower the market value for assets drop as well. This lower the economic power of all consumers, who pull more money out of the economy, driving the economy down, creating a spiral that ends far worse off than before.

There must be something to this as FDR spent the country out of the Great Depression and President Elect Obama has already announced bold building projects to start as soon as he is in office. Can we save ourselves into oblivion?

FORD TRANSIT CONNECT TAXI

UPDATE: It seems Smith Electric is taking this vehicle and making an All-Electric BEV out of it to be released in England soon and co-branded as Ford for the US market and should end up as a consumer vehicle as well without the yellow paint.

FORD TRANSIT CONNECT TAXI CONCEPT OFFERS NEW PERSPECTIVE ON URBAN TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS

Ford Transit Connect
  • Ford reveals fuel-efficient, nimble Transit Connect Taxi concept in the taxi capital of America – New York City.
  • A cavernous, easy-to-access interior marries the maneuverability and fuel efficiency of a small car, showing how perfectly suited Transit Connect is for carrying people and cargo through congested city streets.
  • Transit Connect provides another example of how Ford is leveraging its global product lineup. Transit Connect is designed, engineered and manufactured by Ford of Europe. It was named International Van of the Year when launched in 2003.

NEW YORK, March 19, 2008 – Ford, the leading provider of taxis in North America, is offering a fresh take on taxis at the New York International Auto Show.

“Taxis are an important part of the urban landscape, and the Transit Connect Taxi concept represents a potential game-changer, given its small footprint, comfortable, spacious interior, fuel-efficient engine and affordability,” said Mark Fields, president of The Americas. “We’re interested to see how people react.”

Ford has been a leader in the taxi business for decades. The Ford Crown Victoria is the leader in the taxi market in cities throughout the U.S.

Ford also was the first manufacturer to introduce gas-electric hybrid-powered taxis into North American fleets with the launch of the Ford Escape Hybrid in San Francisco and New York City in early 2005. Today, New York’s Escape hybrid fleet has grown to more than 800, including the original 18 that joined the fleet in 2005, still running with the original nickel-metal hydride batteries intact.

The Transit Connect Taxi concept offers a new perspective on how to move people and their gear through congested city streets – more cleanly, efficiently and with new technology that could revolutionize the taxi industry.

Built on a dedicated, commercial vehicle platform and tested to Ford’s toughest truck standards, Transit Connect is specially made to meet the extreme demands of taxi service.

With its standard, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission, Transit Connect delivers estimated fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city – a more than 30 percent improvement in fuel economy and nearly 90 percent lower tailpipe emissions than many of today’s traditional taxis.

A Small Footprint with Big Potential
Transit Connect blends well into cityscapes. Its smart, vertical stacked design is able to accommodate three rear-cab passengers and 75 cu. ft. of parcels – in part because it emulates the city skyline that surrounds it.

“When cities ran out of horizontal space at the turn of the 20th century, architects started to build upward,” said Peter Horbury, executive director of Design, The Americas. “The Transit Connect Taxi concept brings that same idea to the streets, changing the shape of the space, making it taller with a smaller and narrow footprint.”
